“It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.” ― Neil Armstrong
Korina Gallika is posing herself in direct confrontation with the digital cartographic media, choosing to battle power induced amnesia, exploring in situ the places she finds out on google maps. Rather than hunting Pokémon, she is superimposing her embodied experience of the city of Athens to the disembodied objective representation, using photography against itself, making a unique folding structure of memory layers, producing affective relation against representative comparison. As a master’s key to affective memories Shutter is following a Baudelairian flâneur stroll in Athens streets, transmuting the contemporary being-in-the-city in the underworld of industrial urban landscape photography of early 1900’s, hinting thus that our subjects are more close than we would like to admit to a ghost story of modernity.
